The Café Con Leche Latina Paving the Way for Women of Color in Tech An uplifting interview with Julissa S. Germosen

Have you ever felt like outdated cultural norms were holding you back from reaching your full potential as a woman of color?

You’re not alone.

I recently had the honor of interviewing the remarkable Julissa S. Germosen, a proud café con leche brown Latina who forged her own path to the top ranks of tech leadership.

In this week’s episode of From a Woman to a Leader, Julissa pulls no punches, exposing the real barriers facing women of color today – from systemic racism to generational trauma. It wasn’t always easy, but her inspirational story proves our collective power to overwrite limiting narratives.

Here are 5 key insights every woman needs to hear:

The Stark Reality of the Racial Wealth Gap

Let’s start with some cold, hard facts. For every $1 a white male earns, Latinas take home just $0.57. The generational impact is massive, with only 2% of Latinos having any wealth to pass down. We obviously can’t fix centuries of oppression overnight, but shining a light on grave inequalities is the only way forward.

Cultural Conditioning Starts Early

From childhood, many Latino families instill messaging like “work hard, keep quiet, and you’ll be rewarded.” While well-intentioned, this forces women to silence their voices and passions. Julissa urges us to honor our roots while questioning doctrine holding us back.

Latina Entrepreneurs Are Rising Up

Faced with systemic corporate barriers, Latinas are the fastest growing group starting their own businesses. Success begins with mindset shifts – from seeing money as evil to embracing it as a tool for abundance and social good.️

Ask Boldly and Negotiate Bravely

Research shows women of color often undervalue themselves from the outset. Julissa confess even she feared asking for too much early on. But we must recognize existing disadvantages, build confidence through practice, and value our worth.

Lead with Joy and Share Your Light

While tackling injustice is serious work, staying anchored in purpose and possibility keeps us going. Julissa leads with her vibrant spirit and uplifts other women through mentorship. Her new book Latina Madrina promises more golden lessons like these.

Hope you’ll listen to this episode that’s long overdue. Keep shining bright, ladies! The world needs your talents.
