Have you ever found yourself stuck in a job that doesn’t excite you anymore?
Maybe you’ve looked around your office (or Zoom screen) and thought, Is this really what I’m meant to do for the rest of my life?
If so, you are not alone.
I’ve been there. And so has my guest on this episode of From a Woman to a Leader, Jet Van Wijk.
Jet’s story is one of courage, resilience, and reinvention.
She went from working in a corporate basement—literally, no windows, no fresh air—to building a multi-seven-figure business.
Today, she helps others break free from unfulfilling careers and build lives they truly love.
But it wasn’t an easy road. She failed, pivoted, and had to figure things out step by step. And in this episode, she shares exactly how she did it—and how you can, too.
Feeling Stuck? Here’s What to Ask Yourself First
So many women I work with tell me they feel trapped in their jobs. They know something isn’t right, but they don’t know what to do next.
Jet says the first step is to ask yourself two important questions:
1️⃣ Am I happy doing what I do right now?
2️⃣ Do I see myself doing this for the rest of my life?
If your answer is no (or even maybe not), it’s time to start exploring new possibilities.
And no, that doesn’t mean you have to quit your job tomorrow.
It just means you should start paying attention to what excites you.
Pivoting to Passion: A Lawyer Who Found Her Calling in Interior Design
One of my favorite stories Jet shared was about a woman who spent her entire career as a lawyer but felt completely drained by it.
She thought the only way to make a career change was to stay in the legal field—so she started offering marketing services for law firms. But she hated it.
Then, Jet asked her: Do you even like lawyers?
The answer was a hard no.
After some digging, they realized that what she really loved was interior design.
She could scroll Pinterest for hours looking at home decor ideas.
So, instead of trying to market for law firms, she pivoted and started working with interior designers instead.
And guess what?
She loved it.
This is such a powerful example of why we need to stop boxing ourselves in.
Just because you’ve done something for years doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it.
You have other interests, skills that transfer, and, most importantly, the ability to learn new ones.
Why Personal Branding is Everything (Even if You’re Not an Entrepreneur)
Another huge takeaway from this episode?
Your personal brand is one of the best investments you can make—no matter your career path.
Whether you’re in corporate or running your own business, people buy from people.
They want to work with people they know, trust, and connect with.
Jet shared how she built her brand over the years, pivoting from influencer to digital marketer to business coach—while always keeping herself at the center of it.
That’s the magic of a strong personal brand: it evolves with you.
You’re not tied to one job title or one company. You are the brand. And when you build it the right way, it can open doors you never even knew existed.
The Biggest Mistake People Make When Trying to Pivot
Jet dropped some serious wisdom here: Most people approach career changes backwards.
They start by learning random new skills, then try to figure out where they can apply them.
But that’s like buying a karaoke machine for a monk—it just doesn’t fit.
Instead, reverse engineer it:
1️⃣ Identify the industry or niche you want to work in (something that genuinely interests you).
2️⃣ Research what businesses in that space actually need.
3️⃣ Learn the skills that match those needs.
This way, you’re not wasting time learning things that won’t serve you. You’re setting yourself up for success from the start.
What’s Next for You?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of your next step, this episode is for you.
Whether you want to leave your job, pivot to something new, or simply build more flexibility into your career, Jet’s insights will help you start moving in the right direction.
And the best part?
You don’t have to do it alone.
